Sadio Mane

  • €35.00

Sadio Mané did not want to be a farmer. He had been kicking a ball around the dust-swept lanes of Bambali for as long as he could remember - and he was faster, more skillful, better than anyone else in the small village of Senegal. When he was 15 he fled from home to join the football academy in Dakar. A couple years later he started his European odyssey by joining Metz, Salzburg, followed by Southampton until finally settling down in Liverpool.

A key element of Mané’s game is his ability to score in just about any circumstance. He is underrated in the air and can finish with either foot. It is this skill to pounce on any chance, along with his electric pace, which makes him so deadly.

The artwork illustrates Sadio’s celebration after giving Liverpool the lead in the quarter-final against Bayern Munich. Van Dijk launched a booming, lofted ball from inside his own half, Neuer was caught out by the deftness of Mané’s touch, who twisted and turned, then pitched it towards the far corner and the ball floated delicately inside the post, almost in slow motion. That Bayern away win was another key moment for Liverpool on their way to win the European Cup a 6th time. Sadio, the child of Bambali, has come to be a symbol of everything that is good about this modern Liverpool team, a combination of endeavour and talent that has carried them to the pinnacle of European football again.
